Coaching Philosophy
As a coach, it is my role to facilitate the definition of success that feels correct to the skater, and set them up for that success. I see skaters as both athletes and artists; and seek to bring out both their technical accuracy and expressive potential on the ice. I love what I do and share that love with skaters at every level, and enjoy taking a skater-centered approach to developing their skills on the ice.
Competitive Background
I was a dancer first prior to transitioning to the ice, and have over 35 years of experience in dance with particular focus on ballet and modern dance techniques in addition to my broad knowledge of skating disciplines. Competed in ice dancing, freestyle (singles), showcase and synchronized skating, with additional professional experience in pairs and figures. Six time US Open Professional Figure Skating Championships competitor. National competitor in ice dancing. US Figure Skating triple gold medalist. Current Director of Outreach and professional ensemble performer for the Ice Theatre of New York, in additional to being an aerialist and dancing professionally off the ice.
Coaching Experience
Over 25 years coaching experience at all levels of skating, plus over 35 years of off ice dance experience. Over 250 students have achieved US Figure Skating gold medals across all disciplines of skating. I have coached and choreographed for skaters representing 37 countries, including skaters in ISU international competitions and Junior Grand Prix events. I have choreographed World and Olympic skaters for events/exhibitions and worked with them on technique in skating foundational skills to improve their edge quality, agility and accuracy in movement. I have served as a mentor and industry leader for coaches from around the world to hone their skills as instructors. Ice Theatre of New York professional ensemble performer and master edge class instructor, 41 of my former students have become professional touring skaters with companies such as Disney on Ice, Holiday on Ice, Royal Caribbean, Bietak Productions. Many of my students have also pursued internationally competitive synchronized skating on the top teams in the world.
Most Memorable Sports Moment
