Coaching Philosophy
My goal is to create an inclusive and safe environment where students are able to explore their bodies in movement. Creating a space where students are able to fail and encouraged to try again not only builds on their confidence but teaches them perseverance no matter the challenges ahead. Coaching is not only about teaching skills in a sports setting but teaching them life long skills they can use in their everyday lives.
Competitive Background
I was on the swimming, volleyball, and track & field team all 4 years of high school. I was team captain for both my swim team and track & field team for my last two years. I did not peruse sports in college as I was solely focused on my education.
Coaching Experience
I have been a certified Water Safety Instructor for the past 10 years. I’ve taught infants to adults ranging from 3 months old to 50 years old. I have taught private lessons, learn-to-swim group lessons, swim team/club, and baby/parent classes.
Most Memorable Sports Moment
I have many memorable sports experiences but the one that always sticks out to me is when I worked with a student who has cerebral palsy and he finally was able to swim without a flotation device across the pool. The look of pure joy and excitement on his face and the meaning it had for his grown ups was an experience I will always be thankful to be apart of.
