Coaching Philosophy
I believe in athlete-centered coaching, and I try to encourage my skaters to experience autonomy in their skating journeys. I do my best to create an environment that is both inclusive and fun. My main goal as a coach is to help my students develop a life-long love for the sport.
Competitive Background
I competed as an ice dancer on Team USA for five years with my skating partner, Joe Johnson. I am a Grand Prix competitor and an international medalist. In addition to my competitive background, I also have several years of professional skating experience. I have toured with the Cirque du Soleil show, AXEL, and I performed as a professional for the UK television series, Dancing on Ice, which I won with my celebrity partner in the 2021-22 season. I currently perform regularly with Ice Dance International and Ice Theatre of New York.
Coaching Experience
I have over a decade of coaching experience, ranging all ages and skill levels. I specialize in skating skills, partnering, and ice dance elements, and I have worked with elite competitors in both singles and ice dance. I am passionate about sharing the joys of skating with everyone from day-one beginners to seasoned competitors.
Most Memorable Sports Moment
My skating partner and I received a standing ovation after performing our free dance at the 2019 U.S. Championships. We were the first openly LGBTQ+ team to compete for Team USA, and being embraced by the audience felt like a special step forward for inclusivity in the sport. Getting to be a part of a vibrant and welcoming skating community has been the best gift the sport has offered me over the years.
